Obtaining A Job In The Wyoming Trucking Industry

There are many Wyoming trucking jobs available and once you find one, there are several things that you can do to improve your wage and keep your job for a long period of time.

One of the things you can do to improve the chance of having a pay increase is obtaining endorsements. There are several endorsements that you can qualify for in the state of Wyoming, include HazMat, air brakes, tank, and the double/triple trailer endorsement. You can obtain one, or all of these endorsements.

In order to obtain an endorsement, you must pass each endorsement’s required exam(s). Once you have done so, you can drive a vehicle that has air brakes, carries liquid or gas, pulls more than one trailer at a time, or carries hazardous materials. The ability to carry such diverse cargo puts you in a position to demand more money.

If you plan on moving from the state of Wyoming and would like to continue your career as a truck driver, you will want to contact the Department of Motor Vehicles in the state you are moving to. You will, more than likely, be required to pass the written exam that is given by that state. Each state has its own CDL laws and many require you to take their written exam before you can be issued a commercial driver’s license.

One snag that truck drivers sometimes run into is failing to renew their commercial driver’s license. In the state of Wyoming, you are required to renew your CDL every four years. You should receive a renewal reminder four months before your license expires. To receive this reminder, make sure that WYDOT has your current address on file.

As you renew your commercial driver’s license, you may also want to renew your endorsements. One of the endorsements, the HazMat endorsement, requires that you pass a criminal background check. The fee for the background check is $94.

Renewing your license and endorsements will essentially be useless if you are not driving safely. Drive cautiously in order to avoid tickets or accidents that may mean the end of your Wyoming truck driving job.

Obtain as many endorsements as you can to increase your chance of making a good income. Once you have a job that you enjoy, do all that you can to keep it, including renewing your commercial driver’s license and endorsements and driving safely.
